What: Each week, topics intentionally focus on how George Floyd’s death is impacting Black America. In addition to our safe space to discuss the collective trauma, we offer breakout rooms to process our own experiences in a more intimate setting.
Why: George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbury, Eric Garner……need we go on?
Virtual Therapy: All participants will have access to a free 30-minute processing therapy session after each talk. Diversity of Us provides free online therapy for the black and brown communities and has a team of mental health professionals to provide one-on-one support for those in need. Free of charge. For more information, please see the Virtual Therapy Page: click here
Format: Each program is 30 minutes. The hosts open with a topic discussion followed by 10-minute individual breakout room reflections. The final 10 minutes will be Q and A with an open-ended conclusion. Following is the option of an additional 30 minutes for any participants to engage in therapeutic connection or support from the Diversity of Us Virtual Therapy Initiative.
Safety is key. We Are George is built on the foundation of providing a safe space for black people. This is an opportunity to model the very thing we do not receive on the streets where we walk and in the nation where we breathe. A place where we can be appreciated rather than dehumanized. A place where no knee can touch your neck, no chain or handcuff can bind your wrist, and no choke-hold can silence your voice.
